MNDNR has been working to complete County
Geologic Atlases for all Counties in the state of Minnesota
to evaluate the
bedrock geology and aquifer availability. Although not all County projects have
started, complete atlases for all Counties in the Metro are available.
Separately, but related, the Met Council has completed the Metro
which is a regional model used to assess the impacts of possible
water management scenarios on projected groundwater levels based on land use
changes, population growth, and water demand changes. This data could be
combined into a web-based mapping interface to enable users to explore the
groundwater resources available in their community and to understand the
impacts of groundwater use on the future availability of this resource. The
webmap could be used as an educational tool for a topic that is currently at
the forefront of public conversation - drinking water supply - with White Bear Lake being an example.
